Redefining Happiness
People often think of happiness in terms of achievement. While there is some truth to this, it raises an important question: what do we make of those who have been conditioned to believe that achievement is the only path to feeling complete? And what happens when they fail? A setback shouldn’t diminish our sense of self worth or make us feel as though we are no longer enough.
As human beings, we are destined to experience the full spectrum of emotions. Joy and sorrow, success and failure, hope and disappointment are not opposites; they are companions on the same journey.
A favourite author of mine once stated; Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart."
Those words have stayed with me because they remind us that suffering is not a flaw in life, but part of it. Perhaps happiness, then, is not the absence of pain or the reward for achievement. Perhaps it is a practice, a conscious choice to find meaning, gratitude, and purpose despite life's uncertainties.
I've come to believe that happiness isn't found in happy moments, achievements, or perfect circumstances. It's the mastery of maintaining a grateful heart, a peaceful mind, and a hopeful spirit, even when life gives you every reason not to.
By being part of this community, I hope not only to envision a deeper understanding of happiness, but also to practice it alongside those who, like me, are learning that happiness is not merely something we stumble upon, but rather something we cultivate together.
Perhaps happiness looks different for each of us. I'd love to hear your perspective.
